Dr. Dave comes for a visit

We headed over to Granville Island to chase some birds, stomp some puddles and maybe even check out some of the art galleries.

I see a bird, I see a bird.

Kale is peeking through the boat. The weird part of this picture is that Keva caught another Kid in the picture who had hair almost identical to Kale's and was wearing a coat the same colors as Kale's coat. I thought it was Kale the first time I looked at the picture.

Theft in the house...

Our suspicions have been confirmed. Our camera was stolen, as was our video camera. We think it happened on a Saturday morning when we were out in the backyard playing and gardening.
We thought Kale had moved the camera somewhere we couldn't find it but a week later we realized the video camera was not on its rest on the bookcase. Aggravation. The house has been turned upside down and they truly aren't here. Fortunately it doesn't look like anything else was taken.

Playing in Bainbridge

We headed down to Seattle this weekend to visit some friends and then headed over to the island to visit some more friends. They took us to this amazing park where we had a great time.

The wee ones checking out the slides. Kale was loving it until I attempted to take a picture.

Bigger Boys, Bigger Slide.

The happy family.

And a shot of the photographers. All photos courtesy of D & D Toloudis. Our camera went missing last weekend and we still haven't been able to track it down. We are beginning to suspect that someone came into the house and stole it.

UH OH

Keva thinks its adorable, I hear it all day so the cuteness has worn off a little but it still makes me smile.

Granville Island Birds

Better than lunch, better than a play gym and way better than the back yard.

Mr. Potato

Well actually it is R2 Potatwo. Iain brought this back for Kale (well actually Keva but Kale seems to really enjoy it) after Christmas. Now we need to track down Darth Tater so Keva has one too.

Tug-o-war

Boo has a great love of stuffed animals and steals them any chance she gets. Kale didn't use to care until he figured out that if he grabbed the animal she was running away with and she wouldn't let go. Now he likes to drag her around by a stuffed animal. Kale even pushes stuffed animals into her mouth to try and get her to play the game.

Talking...

Beyond MAMA, DADA and BABY, which he figured out well before the one year mark Kale didn't seem to be much into verbal communication. (Keva swears Kale says HISH for fish but I have never heard it so can't attest to it). Sure he said MILK twice but they were separated by a week and we couldn't get him to repeat it after that. But both Keva and I heard it so it is listed as a spoken word.

For the past few weeks Kale has been saying CAAAT and CAAAW (hard to distinguish) the first for all furry moving critters (ferrets, dogs, cats and the like) with the second being aimed at birds (we do have blackbirds in the neighborhood). He even will say it when we hears the birds outside the window without seeing them.

Two weeks ago he started mimicking sounds. He wouldn't do it every day but he would have days where it felt like he was trying to repeat a lot of the words we were saying. He hadn't ever done that before so I thought it was promising.

This week he has been articulating words a bit more. When he is done eating we ask him if he is all done and make the sign for all done. He usually signs his agreement (or grabs more food). On Monday night we asked him per normal and he signed all done and then said ALL DONE. We were floored and wondered if he would say it again. He said it three more times in the bath tub that night but waited until today to say it again. He was ALL DONE with dinner, and later ALL DONE with his bath, and even later (when he should have been sleeping) he was ALL DONE nursing and wanted to mow the floor.

Yesterday he say BYE to clerk at the bookstore, as well as to Keva on the phone. Today when I asked him if he was ready to go outside after yoga he said OUTSIDE and I was able to get him to repeat it a few moments later.

Fun to watch the wheels turning.

Hanging about the house and snow

Kale racing towards the door at the promise of a buggy ride.

Ready to ride.

Kale wants to go play in the pond with the ducks and we won't let him so he is a bit grouchy and doesn't see anything else appealing.

More Snow Play

It snowed again. We are beginning to think that living on the West Coast doesn't keep the snow away like it is supposed to. Kale woke us up at 530 this morning vomiting up a storm and kept it up for most of the morning. After a nice long nap he really wanted to go outside so we decided to give it a try.

This is after he stuck his mittened hand into the slushy pond water.

Mum and baby in the back yard.

Kale enjoying the one snow free part of the yard.

Kale's first snow angel. He didn't lay down willingly but once he was back up he was amused by the results.
