Gummy Worms

Over the past few weeks, Kale has been introduced to a few tasty treats - among them ice cream, cookies and gummy worms. (These are also three of his favorite words.) Last weekend, we took a family bike trip to the park:

Molly: Kale, would you like a treat? I have some gummy worms for you!
Kale: Treat! Worm! Hand? (Translation - Oh boy, gummy worms! Hand 'em over!)
Molly: Here's one for you, now.
Kale: (Taking a bite of the gummy worm) More?
Molly: You can have your second gummy worm when you finish that one.
Kale: (Shoving entire gummy worm into his mouth) More?
Keva: When you finish that one, you can have another!
Kale: (Chews and swallows the first worm) More?
Molly: Here you go (Hands Kale his second worm)
Kale: More?
Molly: That's all you get - two worms, no more. All gone!
Kale: Ooooh (Licks the gummy worm)

Kale then spent the next hour and half licking this precious gummy worm, savoring every lick with a "Yummm". He held it for the entire bike ride home. He held it until we told him that he would have to finish the sticky gummy worm before getting into bed for naptime. When we offered to throw it into the garbage for him, he reluctantly popped it into his mouth and finished it.

I think our boy understands the concept of conservation.
