The Halloween Round Up

Every time I asked Kale what he wanted to be for Halloween he gave me a different answer: Monkey, Truck, Six, Frog, etc etc. I decided to go with the truck idea, specifically fire truck, because I am a much more capable box painter and cutter than I am seamstress.

Here is Kale walking into the EA Halloween party. He was excited to be wearing his costume and wanted to walk everywhere, albeit very slowly.

The EA party was just as over the top as last years. There were actors playing fairy tale characters everywhere and games at each station. Kale won stuffed animals and candy in large quantities. For me the best part was the fact that there were candy apples, Kale and I shared two!

The night before Halloween we carved our pumpkin. Kale was excited to pull the lid up but 100% unwilling to put his hand into the belly of the pumpkin. Good thing mum likes that slimy sensation.

On Halloween Night we headed out trick-or-treating with the neighbors. Kale was really into it. Apparently his shyness around strangers can be reduced with the prospect of candy. He got scared by the costumes of some older kids at one point and burst into tears but recovered quickly. He also enjoyed going to the door with me to give other people candy.

Kale checking out his loot while wearing his backup costume. We let him have at the candy and eat as much as he wanted. Three and a half small pieces into this candy fest he threw up all over the carpet. He then proceeded to eat the rest of the peanut m&ms he had been working on before we dragged him up to bed.

I am sure he took inventory of his bag though so I will be resisting the urge to sneak a piece or two.

A Dinner Date

With the BlocksPlaydough

Holding Tyler (while everyone makes a point of telling me how good I look with a newborn baby and doesn't it just make me want one right away and Keva runs for the camera to get a picture of me with a baby).

The Horse

On Kale's birthday we gave him a horse that had been Keva's when he was a little boy. Kale was unwilling to try it out that day and has continued to avoid it ever since. All of his friends love it and go straight for it when they come in the door but that has not swayed his opinion.

Happy Birthday Mommy

Kale helped me open my presents over breakfast this morning. We had an amazing breakfast of hot rice pudding with fresh cranberry sauce (yum) and then headed out for a bit of shopping. Mom and Keva brought me clothes and chased Kale around so I was actually able to find some nice jeans, skirt, and a few sweaters. It felt like a very decadent morning of spoiling.

My birthday fell on Canadian Thanksgiving and we went over to our neighbours for supper. Russel lighting the candles.

Christa busy in the kitchen.

Margaret smiling through supper.

A family shot.

It was nice to be taken care of on my birthday and feel like the world centered on me for a moment. It doesn't happen often (especially since Kale was born) and was a treat.

Birthday Part 3

Tunnel play with grandma.

A train cake for the birthday boy.

Eating the icing off the cake with his little toy spoon.

A little post cake sushi from Auntie Kimber.

Petting Zoos and Mall Trains

are what birthdays are made of.

Kale had been asking to go to the Petting Zoo again ever since hearing me talking to a friend about it so I thought it would be a good place for us to spend his birthday
Once we made it there he wouldn't even get out of my arms. He didn't want to pet or look at the animals.

Grandma took some pictures of the animals so Kale could look at them later. He maintained he desire to leave the entire time we were there and wanted to go home or to the mall to ride the train.

Since it was his birthday we headed out to the train and he had a blast.

We even got a picture of the conductor (who sleeps in the mall in case you were wondering).

Then we hit the construction vehicle and grabbed a bubble tea before heading home.

EDIT: In the weeks since Kale's birthday he has talked about our trip to the petting zoo frequently. He is particularly vocal about Petunia the pig. It is amazing to me how much he is retaining from an experience even if it appears that he isn't into it at all.

Kale's 2nd Birthday

Has it really been two years? Goodness me. Our little baby is now a busy toddler.

The glee for the horse has been short lived. So far he is unwilling to even give it a try.

This dump truck from Auntie Robyn has been a big hit.

Check out the pattern in the stacking blocks. We adults had nothing to do with that.

And Grandma brought a tunnel that is even cooler than Cayden's.

Off I go
